Default Let's start the brainstorming

Hello everybody,

what kind of topics could this thread contain? I think we should talk about the layout architecture of an onlineshop, new standards concerning the visualization of functionality, the content elements and hierarchy, etc

If e.g. we have a look at the best practice shops there seems to be a trend concerning the objectives of the startpage: the startpage has to give an overview of what the visitor can expect in an emotional way – with an impact to the layout architecture.
The best practice shops give us highly emotional access to their offer and provide an according brand experience.

What about the objectives of the future layout architecture? Do we need these columns any more? Or can we skip them, by navigating over the primary navigation bar and the breadcrumb navi .... not to forget the context sensitive crosslinking?

The checkout process could even skip the primary navigation bar and even reduce the header, because we want to focus on the buying process.

Should shop layouts tend more to look like a magazine, or even adapt the 1-column layout from mobile devices?

These are just some thoughts to start the discussion, looking forward to your posts!

i don´t like this upcoming 1 colum style of webshops like amazon does: or fressnapf
I´m really missing my navigation tree on the left side.
The "fressnapf-way" is for me the better solution, with highlighted breadcrump.

I am alone with my opinion? Whats your favorite as onlineshopper?

Maybe that's because you used OXID so much .

Amazon does have a navigation at the left side, but they hide it in detail-view, kind of strange. They also have a very well hidden breadcrumb, it's called "Look for Similar Items by Category". But why not at the top?

IMHO the 3-column layout is still good, but i also like 1-column layout like DELL.
