Oxid 4.5 - any hint on when to expect a release

Hello all together,

can anyone give a hint, when to expect a beta, rc or final of the 4.5? Will it be more Oct, Nov, Dec or even 2011? We are starting two new shops-projects in the next few weeks und would really like to start on the new templates instead of having to update them a few weeks after the shop-release. A SVN or pre-final zip or whatever would be fine to learn the new templates and start the design-process on a closer-to-final base than the “old” templates.

I hope, that the timeline is a little dynamic. Better working and tested software then software on time.

The 4.4.3 release is just 5 days old.

It is not that I want to have it sooner as it makes sense. I only like to know if it would be possible to wait for it or if we have to use the 4.4.3 for development. Templates will be supported further on - that is good, but starting on the new templateset would avoid some additional work later in shop-lifetime …

@Kai,

The releases are due at the end of the quarter, so it’s about time. But if there are show-stoppers, the OXID-product-team decides to delay the release. As MBa says better well tested software than on time:)

Btw - I have seen a demo of 4.5 at the MOW last week. It’s worth waiting for, if you can afford to

Hello guys,

I absolutely agree with you regarding the notion about prefering better tested over early released software. What I am looking for is a way to get my hands on a beta BEFORE the official release in oder to develop on the new templates. Releasedate of the new shops is beginning of 2011 - what quite shure is after the official release-date of the new oxid-version.

I completly agree with that. I also saw it at the MOW and think its worth waiting. Expecially there are some changes I want to do anyway.

Subnet-one. maybe you can ask your customer if he wants to start this year, or next year. Then it is clear which version you could take.

The 4.5. brings, according to my infos “just” Template changes and no new features. So it should be possible to build all you want with the old template (with higher efforts).
I expect the 4,5 end of Dez. Anyway the chrismas seasion will be over when the new template arrives. So its a nice project to start the next year

Are you using the OXID standard template for your projects??

I doubt, that this is a good idea anyway…

That depends on how much adjustment has to be done. If the layout is similar to the standard, using the standard-templates is not the badest idea I guess.

What would be arguments against that?

Actually would be great if someone from OXID could comment if the over-due end-of-Q3 release will happen or not. Else everone can plan for the next release after 3 months, and move on for now. (Many an OXID projects can be done in 3 months time

Hi guys,

unfortunately, I cannot give an exact date yet. Not even a statement if version 4.5.0 can still be released in 2010 :frowning: There’s still a lot of work to do…

Just a hint: Please register to dev-general. I reckon the developers will start communicating about the new template system soon(ish).

Regards

Thank you for that info Marco. So we will not wait for the new templates, but use the current set. dev-general is read (ok - at least recieved) for a long time already
