Pay Pal and eFire Questions

Hello, I’ve searched the Oxid site and forums but havn’t been able to answer my questions on my own, so I will just ask here.
I have set up a test site and want to add Pay Pal but it seems I have to pay 49 Euros or sign up for some eFire service. I have not been able to figure out what eFire is or how it can be of use to me. I think making a basic feature like PayPal commercial or dependent on Oxid eSales eFire is a bit contradictory to the claim that Oxid is Open Source eCommerce. It’s a bit misleading to the user. When I setup Oxid on my server, I wanted a free Open Source eCommerce, NOT some eFire service or costly modules for basic functionality. Now it seems if I want to add PayPal – a very basic and nessessary feature – I am forced to sign up or buy.

Hmmmm this seems a bit pre-meditated.

Please correct me if I’m wrong or missed something.

Muss ich schreiben in Deutsch für jemanden der mir Antwort?

Hi,

nah… English is absolutely perfect as this is the international forum. Many folks to may answer where at OXID Commons yesterday and maybe hung over a bit

To integrate PayPal into the OXID eShop you have several choices at this point: Either you download one of the provided interfaces from the OXID eXchange application, write your own (maybe open source) module or use the OXID solution eFire.

OXID eFire is not open source software. It is a SaaS (Software as a Service) plattform we offer that meets the need of applicating a range of interface issues an online merchants in the German language area (GER, AU, CH) might have, e.g. price search engines, product portals, credit card handling and so on. Amongst that so called “portlets”, PayPal is offered as a free service, that might work for the U.K. (I guess you are based there, right?) as well. To get onto the (for the non-free services) prepaid based plattform OXID eFire, we demand a deposit of EUR 50 that you get back if you don’t blow it with the non-free services.

Hope I could help understanding that a bit. Get back for further questions!

Regards

Ok, thanks so much for your answers. I am in Germany right now but my german is not so good yet. I set up shops for my German clients.

So as of now if I want Paypal as an feature for Oxid, I have to buy a Module 49,- Eur or I can use eFire, where I have to deposit 50,- Euro.

So basically unless I can program my own Module, Paypal is not an out-of-the-box function of Oxid CE. --This is vrery dissapointing as most Open Source eCommerce systems out there (Magento, Prestashop osCommerce, to name a few) PayPal is already built in for FREE. But my clients like Oxid SOOOO much that I dont want to have to tell them to change shop systems.

eFire looks a bit bloated for my or my customers needs and as far as the AGB says my information and data will be recorded and used by Oxid eSales AG and 3rd partys. I don’t like that much.

Why is there no Open Source Paypal module for Oxid?

Where can I start looking to program my own module?

Thanks

Hi,

afaik, the moduls, contribs or whatever for the other shops came out of their communities as well. Look, the OXID community is still young and an alternative to the above named is not there yet. Nonetheless I appreciate if you want to code it and set it under GPL for the others. You will find helpful tutorials in the OXIDforge area. Register to the dev-mailinglists as well.
