“Data error” in selection lists instead of the data…
We had that before related to a wrong database version. Could you check this please? Please have a look at the System Requirements as well.

Could you do a “tandem” installation with a vanillia shop on the same server?

See, this is interesting. I would have bet that it is a strange server behaviour.
Would you do the following please: Connect your broken Shop to the new database and see if the problem still appears?

Simple: Just change the database-data in config.inc.php. Don’t forget to backup!

That’s the usual error message if the database connection could not be established. In most cases the reason is wrong access data in config.inc.php.
