OXID CE 4.9.7 PayPal Credit Card Absence

I am glad it is morning deep in the heart of Germany’s Famous Black Forest!

Because I need some help with a PayPal issue that a very nice technical person from PayPal India has been trying to assist me with. We resolved that all the PayPal setting were ideally set and therefore the next logical step was to query OXID as the author of the PayPal module (3.2.2)

The issue is that PayPal will only allow customers to pay with a PayPal account or in the absence of of an account they insist you create one to proceed with payment.

The PayPal tech said that the module I am using has used elements of PayPal Express but didn’t operate the same way as a normal account with PayPal Express.

To save time, I have scoured the web forums and have checked that “PayPal Account Optional” is ON;
“Auto Return for Website Payments” is ON
“Payment Data Transfer (optional)” is ON
“Encrypted Website Payments” is OFF
“PayPal Express Checkout Settings” is OFF

I have a standard business account, meaning I pay no monthly fees rather a percentage and flag fall charge. I mention this because apparently those that pay a monthly fee have premium services.

I suspect that the problem lies with the EXPRESS CHECKOUT SETTINGS. PayPal says this about the option:

About PayPal Account Optional

You could increase sales by allowing customers to check out without a PayPal account. This is done using the “account optional” feature and doesn’t affect customers with PayPal accounts.

This feature is available for Express Checkout shopping carts, Buy Now buttons and Donations.

Customers without PayPal accounts go through an alternate checkout and have the option to sign up for a PayPal account afterwards.

Please note that if “account optional” is used with the “auto return” feature, those customers aren’t automatically returned to your website after checkout. Instead, they can choose to return to your site.

You are welcome to test the module at https://wheeliecart.com.au and if you accidentally buy and pay for one for real, I can refund your money (:))

Thanks for helping.

Don

Hi Don,

I’m not sure whether it solves your problem, but just in case: A few days ago the new version 3.2.3 of the PayPal module has been released. Several people reported problems with the 3.2.2 release, including a customer of mine. Maybe your problem has been addressed in the new module release as well.

Yours,

Henning

Hi Don,

I didn’t see any “Check out with PayPal” button on the detail page of the products in your eShop. Did you set the PayPal module settings in admin panel? Have a look at our demoshop at https://demoshop.oxid-esales.com/community-edition/admin. Login with admin | admin and go to Extensions -> Modules. Choose PayPal and have a look at the Settings tab.

By the way there is an user manual in your shop directory \documentation\OEPAYPALSTANDALONE.

Cheers
Jürgen

Thanks Jürgen,

I have seen the documentation files before but have never looked in. Too busy with other projects I guess but now that you mention it, it makes sense. I will have a read and see if I can fix the issues.

I still feel that the module is wanting, that is to say perhaps corrupt or something. It may need a reload.

Don

Thank you Henning for pointing out that there was a newer version of the PayPal Module as a result of a few bugs in the prior version.

I cannot be certain this (bugs) was my issue but my PayPal options certainly were not working as they should - there were no options to pay by credit card instead of PayPal.

However, I now have an installation problem with version 3.2.3

I am at paragraph 3.1.2 (English instructions) and I have deactivated PayPal and then deleted the folders “/modules/oe/oepaypal” and then cleared the missing moduled information through the admin panel.

Paragraph 3.2 wants me to copy the contents of

/copy_this

and place it into the root folder. BUT WHERE IS THIS FILE?

I have gone through the entire contents of the folder

paypal-3.2.3

and can’t find this file.

I am stuck without a way forward.

Don : confused:

Hi Don,

I assume you downloaded the new version from Github? The packages there are built automatically by Github from the source code repository. Their structure differs from that of the packages that OXID eSales builds themselves. The documentation refers to the structure of OXID eSale’s “own” packages, that you can for example find in the Exchange. But as far as I can tell, the new version of the PayPal module is not available from the Exchange yet.

You should find the part you need at

paypal-3.2.3/source/

There should be the “modules” folder that corresponds to the “modules” folder at the top level of your shop.

Yours,

Henning

Hi Don,

you move too fast  The paragraph 3.2 of the user manual refers to the folder structure of the installation package. You can’t have an installation package of PayPal 3.2.3 because it isn’t online yet. Let me check when it will be available on eXchange.

Oh, I should type faster

Release date of the OXID eFire Extension PayPal 3.2.3 will be next Tuesday.

Danke Schoen Jürgen

And yet I thought I had it (attached)

This reminds me of waiting for Christmas and Father Nicholas

Guys I am waiting for the new release. Has it been release and if so where do I download it?

Cheers

Don

Hi Don,

Tuesday is not over here in Germany. PayPal 3.2.3 can now be downloaded in our eXchange: http://exchange.oxid-esales.com/OXID-Products/OXID-eFire-Extensions/OXID-eFire-Extension-PayPal-3-2-2-for-4-9-x-Stable-CE-4-4-x-4-9-x.html.

Still can’s see option to use the PayPal Credit Card option.

My customers will only see the PayPal option and if they don’t have an account or don’t want one, they have no other option.

My other shop has a PayPal module that allows for the credit card option.

AFAIK, one has to have a PayPal account in order to buy with credit card via PayPal. Otherwise, a different CC module is necessary. Correct me if I am wrong.

(you might need to switch paypal to USA before you can see this page)

Hi Don,

if you’ll have a look at Figure 4 in PayPal user manual you can see a link “With direct debit or credit card”. So European users without a PayPal account can use PayPal as payment method (with some limitations). Don’t know the conditions in down under.

Hi Forum,

I am very disappointed that the new OXID PayPal Module isn’t completely compatible with eShops operating outside Europe.

From what I can tell, the alternate payment method that PayPal offers non European customers is the option to pay by Credit Card. I have had the PayPal regional technical engineer on my PC (with join.me) checking out all the OXID PayPal module configuration settings and according to him they all seem to be correct. Further more he has double check all the PayPal Merchant account settings and they have everything enabled that needs to be enabled to allow Credit Card usage from their end.

I showed him my other website that had a modified PayPal module installed (thanks to Spurvis, a previous Senior Member) and he conceded that it was indeed strange that PayPal could work with one version of OXID and not he other.

Several approaches have been made to ecomstyle.de who have taken over the modified PayPal module that does work in OXID Version 4.6.4_49061.

Can I say that I am totally frustrated that there doesn’t seem to be a way to get a brilliant program to work with PayPay for merchants outside of Europe.

Frustrated,

Don

Don,

am confused myself, requested PayPal (Germany) directly if there are certainly such differences.

Cheers

Confirmed. Over there’s apparently PayPal Pro in use which is not available in Europe. Am a bit disappointed myself as I thought that with the PayPal module integration we’d offer an internationally accepted payment provider. Apparently legal issues hinder the standardization of these processes :frowning:

Marco,

Thank you for checking into this for me and others in my situation. What is frustrating is that I have a PayPal module that works perfectly fine with my first website - you may remember that Spurvis helped me there but as you advised he is no longer a forum participant.

Do you think there would be a member that could modify that PayPal module that worked with OXID Version 4.6.4_49061 so that it could work with the current version? I am no coder but surely there could not be that much work or cleverness required?

Anyway thanks to you and I hope any readers that may wish to champion this hard nut could come forward. I am happy to cooperate in anyway possible including using my new website
as a testing area.

Regards

Don
