are there any news about OXID 7?

Before a stable release appears there will be a 6.5 series. Smarty could already be replaced by Twig in 6.5. Smarty is to be continued as a module.

There is no new information for the 7 series. The release candidate from July 22, 2021 represents the current status. More informations Releases — OXID eSales Documentation

The intended release period for a stable version is the end of 2022. One reason why it is a long time coming are probably the modules. For example the payment methods modules or GraphQL modules.
