Permissions problem after installation

Hi,
I’m sure this is a common problem and i have searched the forum, but a lot of the results were in german (which i don’t understand) and the english ones didn’t prove much help.

a few days ago, i installed the latest version of the community edition. now after setup, i had to change permissions on:
/out/pictures
/log
/tmp
/export
to 777 or 775

and
.htaccess
config.inc.php
to 444

I downloaded Coreftp LE to do this because I could not do it in the version of dreamweaver that i use.
I managed to successfully change the folders to 775, and they stay like that, but the htaccess and config.inc.php file do not stay on 444. after i move to another folder and come back, even when i logged out and logged back in again, the permissions were reset back to 644.
this is causing the error message:
System healthcheck shows setup/server setup of this OXID eShop might be broken. Probably this OXID eShop behaves strange in some cases. Please fix this as soon as possible. Support for fixing find in system healthcheck.
Due to security reasons put your config.inc.php file to read-only mode!

I follow the links through to http://wiki.oxidforge.org/Installation#Files_.26_Folder_Permission_Setup
where it is telling me to change the permissions.

I can change them, but they do not stay the same.

hi again,
I had a thought and went into the file manager in the server control panel. I was able to chnage the config file to 444 and so far it seems to have permanently changed. However, the htaccess file is not visible in the control panel. I presume i would have to email the support people to change perms on that file?

well - seems so

How did you install the shop? Did you upload the files yourself or was it an already existing install-package?

Hi,
thanks for replying. I uploaded the files myself, then run the setup file from the website.

Anyway, upon closer inspection of logging in to the file manager, there was a tick box to select if you wanted to display dot files or not. I ticked this and I was finally able to view and change the perms in the htaccess file!

thanks again,
Jon
